Airport History
Established in 1966. Jim Vandermeer purchased the strip of land on what is know as, a floodplain, from Ralph Moss, a farm owner. In 1970 the land containing the hangers was purchased. In subsequent years Jim and, other like minded pilots began a little flying club. Over the years, the hangers grew to six. Jim and five other pilots created a legally registered land ownership where as they all owned the land but not any divisible part. Growing interest in pilot ownership of the airport, was an agreeable venture by both owners and club members to help reduce operational costs. In 1990 a company was created called “Long Sault Flying Service Inc. For approximately six years this transition was stagnant. In 1996, the company was finally set up. Nine hundred shares were issued. In the following years, shares were bought and, sold. By 2012 all the shares had been bought by one owner. The airport hangers and lands were transferred into the company of Conway Collective Inc. operated by Conway Aviation a registered business.
